Queenholme Alpacas
A little piece of Peru in the Cambridgeshire Fens.
Welcome to Queenholme Alpacas
We began our journey into alpaca ownership at the start of 2018, with just four pregnant females. Seven years on, we now have a herd of both female and male alpacas, with an aim of improving our animals through thoughtful and selective breeding.
Our focus has evolved to concentrate on breeding excellence and alpaca sales. With this shift, we have made the decision to permanently close for public visits and experiences. We apologise for any disappointment and would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years.
About Our Farm
Queenholme Alpacas was established in April 2018 on our family-run arable farm, nestled in the furthest corner of the bustling village of Willingham. Located on the outskirts of the University City of Cambridge, the farm is a peaceful retreat within the fenland countryside.
Our location in the Cambridgeshire Fens provides an ideal environment for raising healthy, happy alpacas. The flat fenland landscape and our careful husbandry practices create the perfect conditions for breeding quality animals.
Our Breeding Programme
At Queenholme Alpacas, we are committed to improving our herd through selective breeding. Each breeding decision is made with care, considering conformation, fleece quality, temperament, and overall health.
We maintain both male and female alpacas, allowing us to carefully plan matings that will enhance the quality of our animals with each generation. Our goal is to produce alpacas that exemplify the best characteristics of the breed.
About Alpacas
Alpacas are gentle, intelligent camelids originating from the high Andes of Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. They have been domesticated for thousands of years, prized for their luxurious fleece and calm temperament.
These remarkable animals are highly social and live happily in herds. They are relatively easy to care for, requiring basic shelter, good quality hay or pasture, fresh water, and regular health checks. Their soft-padded feet are gentle on pasture, making them ideal for small farms and countryside settings.
Alpacas produce fleece in a remarkable range of natural colours, from white and fawn to brown, grey, and black. Their fibre is warmer, lighter, and softer than sheep's wool, and is hypoallergenic, making it highly sought after for textiles and garments.
